Charlotte Shiffman

"The roles of teacher and learner are fluid and I think the best teachers are constantly learning from their students."

Education

Sonoma State University, she has a major in Child Development and a minor in Women's Studies.  She also got her teaching credential from SSU.

Background

Charlotte Shiffman has been teaching with Piner-Olivet since 2001. She has taught everything from 4th-8th.  She has been working with children for over 30 years, in many walks of life and continue to enjoy every moment of it.  Her goal is to tap into children's natural curiosities about the world. Her teaching philosophy stems from her own learning experiences. She learned best when she didn’t even know she was learning. Her favorite class was 12th grade physics.  Ms. Dixon took difficult topics and made them fun and tangible. Still to this day she can remember studying gravity by dropping eggs off the roof. Beginning in 9th grade, everyone looked forward to taking Ms. Dixon’s physic’s class. She hope to have the same effect on my students.

When she's not working she enjoys spending time with her 12 year-old twin sons, her 7 year-old “baby” boy and her loving husband of 17 years.  She enjoys reading, listening to music, being in her garden and watching life through children’s eyes.
